dude who directed the critically acclaimed movie "The Memento" (Ghajini is just a remake of the memento with an extra bit of Indian masala).
The movie is set in Britain's Victorian era where two amateur magicians Robert Angier (Hugh Jackmann) and Alfred Borden (Christian Bale) perform their acts as partners and end up as fierce competitors.During one of their routine performances Angier's wife gets killed and the blame is put on Borden.This leads to a violent, life-long rivalry between the men.
The men perform seperate tricks that are more and more elaborate, often in theatres across the street from each other. And as they attempt to uncover and outmaneuver each other's secrets, the proceedings turn more and more dangerous.The biggest trick of all "The Transported Man" created by Borden and copied at deadly cost by Angier.The entire second half of the movie revolves around this trick and ends in revealing how each men performed it after their struggle and sacrifices all the way through.
Stunning performances by both Hugh Jackmann and Christian Bale.The movie also highlights the real life rivalry between Edison and Nicola Tesla.For those who don’t know about Tesla, he is considered to have invented the 20th century. He created wireless communication in 1893 and Alternative Current (AC) and was the object of utmost frustration and competition to the better known Edison. Tesla was considered mad by some for theories about science-fiction worthy concepts, like a global wireless telecommunications network.Believe me I didnt have any idea about this real life genius until I watched this movie.
